Buying Printed Hentai
Okay, you've found some free online hentai doujinshi, and it's not bad. But there's nothing like the real thing, especially because a lot of the online stuff isn't scanned very competently, and a lot of sites use less resolution than they should. How do you start collecting printed hentai? There are basically two routes, and you will end up using them both:
Buying on eBayGetting an eBay AccountBuying on eBay is easy, but first you have to sign up! It's free and fairly painless. Click the link above. eBay wants your name, address, email address, and date of birth. You have to agree to their user agreement. You DON'T have to give them a credit card number or any proof of identity. This means that it's pretty easy for people to set up bogus accounts. This is why sellers want cash up front before they'll ship the goods, and why buyers want to avoid sellers with bad reputations. More on that later. Finding Hentai on eBayFinding hentai on eBay is not as easy as it looks, because sellers almost never use words like "hentai," "porn," "adult only," or other easy-to-search-for terms. They use weasel words, and different sellers use different weasel words. One seller used the word "spicy" to describe a doujinshi that involves an extended group sex scene. This is why my site has so many eBay ads on it. I've developed elaborate search strings that find the hentai. Look on the pages for the series you like. These searches are not sure-fire, but they're a LOT better than nothing.
BE WARNED: I can't guarantee that a doujinshi that shows up on the list is really a hentai. Sometimes it's impossible to tell from the description. When in doubt, ask the seller if it's hentai. No one who sells doujinshi will mind the question; they get asked it all the time. This simple precaution can save you a lot of money! Bidding and BuyingThere are a lot of different attitudes about bidding strategy. The usual advice is to pick the highest price you're willing to pay, bid that much, and then put your hands in your pockets and never, ever increase your bid once someone outbids you. Some people place their bids at the last possible moment to help prevent bidding wars from happening. But this part is really important: It's not the purchase price that counts, it's the total price. Shipping can be expensive, especially if it's being air-mailed from Japan. So figure out how much you're willing to pay, subtract the shipping and handling, and what remains is your maximum bid. In many cases the places with the higher prices are really cheapest because they don't ream you on shipping. ReputationBuyers and sellers on eBay both have a "feedback rating" that basically says how many people gave them a thumbs-up. For example, my rating is 234 and I have a 100% positive feeback rating. This means that 234 people have given me a thumbs-up and no one has ever given me a thumbs-down. In practice, I worry about sellers with a feedback rating below 95%, and even 97% is a little shaky. Everyone gets a disgruntled customer once in a while, so 100% isn't something you can have forever. Sometimes I'll buy from seller with a rating that isn't in the high nineties, but only if I'm so desperate for the product that I'm willing to take a serious risk of being cheated. Usually, though, I can find what I want from people with a 99%+ rating. My Favorite Hentai SellersMy favorite ebay hentai sellers are comic_king_anime in the U.S., and snottyskids in Japan. PayingRead the payment instructions carefully. Many vendors prefer PayPal, but most will accept postal money orders, and some will accept personal checks or credit cards. Overseas vendors will probably require an international postal money order. You can buy a money order or international money order at any US post office with cash, debit card, or traveller's check. A lot of eBay purchasers start by paying with postal money orders and eventually switch to PayPal. As far as I can tell, a money order is as good as a cashier's check, but costs less. Getting Your HentaiSo far, all the hentai I've bought has been discreetly packaged. No naked anime chicks were on the envelopes, and the return address stickers said things like "anime shop," not "hentai porn emporium." So you probably don't have to worry about the mail carrier or family members figuring out what's inside. Aloha Anime
I've been very happy with Aloha Anime. They're based in California, so their shipping costs and shipping time are very reasonable. They have an enormous selection of hentai doujinshi, respond quickly to questions via email, and all in all are a pleasure to work with. |
